About Me!

Hi, I’m Mike, a Naturopath discovering his own path in improving his own health.

From a young age I always imagined that plants had hidden powers to make you stronger, healthier or do the complete opposite. I was obsessed with the narrative of medieval herbalists and games that used potions that I spent many days mixing grasses and weeds together to make my own. Never would I have believed that my childhood obsession could become a career and a way of life and a way of health.

Years later, deciding what i wanted to get into career-wise, tossing up engineering or medicine or something related, I experienced the loss of health and function my father was experiencing with a pneumonia diagnosis. We were all frustrated at how many doctors visits he was attending to, but nothing was improving. And not only that, the medication regimen potentially initiated a diabetes diagnosis. I was losing faith in what medicine could do.

– granted, he was always on the pathway to diabetes, but I feel his medication, which didn’t seem to be doing anything, was the straw that broke the camels back.

After a few months my mother decided to send him to a naturopath. I was hesitant and opposed to the idea. How can old medicine cure things new medicine can’t? But my perspective was wrong. And he began improving within weeks. A man who couldn’t walk down the stairs without having a break, was beginning to get better. I get correlation doesn’t equal causation, but that’s what got me started into my natural health outlook.

Naturopaths have a huge toolbox to work with. By practicing nutritional and lifestyle as well as focusing on root cause approaches, we deal with chronic conditions from a different angle rather than simply head first into the diseases/disorders and the symptoms they present. We work on restoring the building blocks of health to restore balance while also targeting symptoms present to tackle presentations from 2 or more fronts. We believe that symptoms are expressions the body presents when systems fail. By strengthening the systems as well as addressing key deficiencies and targeted approaches we may achieve outcomes that last.
